10-19-2014 Pastor’s Notes

October 19th, 2014

The Roman Church is in the news again this week with the stir caused by the indications from their Pope and the church leadership that the doors would now be open within their religion for the acceptance of homosexuality . It would seem that the current Pope is doing all he can to secure the blessings of the world on his reign . A theology that changes with the changing whims of culture is really no theology at all, but rather, it is more of a religious philosophy . The Bible is not vague concerning the sins of the flesh. It does not matter how popular various sins become, there is no threshold past which a sin is reclassified as an acceptable practice in the sight of God .

Certainly, the world has little noted, nor long remembered the past bloody history of the Roman Catholic Church . Though it can continuously alter its practices and philosophies, as it is demonstrating in this week’s proceedings, it cannot erase the record of history . I have in my library a book called “Martyrs Mirrors” which contains thousands of accounts from the criminal records of various European cities, detailing the actions taken against the people called Anabaptists, by Roman Catholic civil authorities . Countless thousands were routinely tortured and martyred for no other crime but rejecting Romanism and professing faith in Christ and his Word alone . All those who laid down their lives for the faith of the gospel found the grace of their Saviour to be all sufficient. You and I must be willing to stand true to God’s Word even as we realize that our position becomes less and less acceptable in an increasingly secularist culture. “Fear not little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom .” Luke 12:32
