Yesterday, 14 of us had a chance to fulfill one aspect of service in our church, and we were able to act directly on what Pastor preached on last Sunday night. Remember the sermon on service (when he was making fun of the old guys?) One of the major emphases he gave was on soul winning, and particularly on Saturation Saturday! How cool it was to see so many out! You should try to make it a point to come out on Saturdays. Rain or shine, we’ll be out soul winning and inviting people to church, and especially when there’s a Saturation Saturday you should try to be involved.
The greatest person in God’s eyes is the greatest servant, and praise God for the great service of Mrs. Jeanne Sarmiento! She spent all afternoon yesterday teaching us how to roll lumpia, and she donated all the materials just for the Teens of Faith to sell! Thanks to those who came out to help with that… it was a very fun work day. We LOVE being around you, and any chance you get, we’d love to have you come to these activities.
Finally, Happy Father’s Day, Bro. (Grandpa?) Bruce! Since you’re the only dad in here you get all the glory of the day! I hope you have a wonderful time today, and thank you for all your great work and leadership. You are THE coolest dad in this room today!
-Bro. Ryan
Everyone had a great time at Knott’s, and nothing bad happened to Patrick… what an AWESOME activity! What was really cool was to meet so many of your friends. Hopefully they had a good time, and I’ll add their names to my prayer list to remember them in the months to come. Thank you for making the effort to bring them!
I’ve just been writing an article on the Afterglows, and my prayer for our Sunday night activities over the summer is that you reach out to others. Let your love for God flow into a love for others, and ask your friends to come on Sunday nights and hang out after church. MOST of the reason we’re doing these Afterglows is for YOU to be involved in outreach. By the way, outreach doesn’t always mean strangers… it can mean the ones who don’t normally come to activities or to church on Sunday nights.
Always be others-conscious. You’ll only be better as you learn to think from others’ perspective.
Another reason we’re doing these Afterglows is for you to have a little more time to get to know the new 7th graders. When we’re together, be nice and welcoming. 7th graders… don’t be annoying or you’ll be punched… by me (unless you’re a girl.) Mentor, don’t bully.
All that’s to say: love God. Love others. Do right. We love you and had a blast with you yesterday! We’re looking forward to a great summer.
-Bro. Ryan
AND COUNTING
The money isn’t what it’s all about, but it’s really cool to earn it! Yesterday we had our annual garage sale and sold almost a record number of goods. Thank God for giving church people who help us out every year. We’re blessed to be a part of this church and to learn from some very cool people. I love our church family and you should thank God for them.
Also, Friday night was a really encouraging time as we heard some testimonies (er… preaching?), played some fun games, and hung out at church, getting about 13 minutes of sleep that night. Craig won himself $5 as the first finder-of-Bro.-Ryan award winner (he’d BETTER have his dollar for the offering today!…), and everyone did an outstanding job working Saturday. I really mean that. Next year we’ll try to work it better so that you can have some meals and a little rest time around lunch, but we appreciate the ones who toughed it out! Even our first-time visitor worked all day!! She’s so cool! (Thanks for bringing her, Nelly.)
Wednesday was the first day to quote your Romans 8 verses (from the GODS WORD booklets), and it was very cool that three people applied themselves last week and quoted verses 1-3. If you read the chapter every day, I guarantee it will get easier and easier. Paul says over and over that to call yourself a Christian pretty much signs you up for whatever Christ wants. If you have NO desire to memorize Scripture… there’s little there to convince me that Christ is real to you. Be careful what you love in life.
I love and am thankful for all of you. Thank you for your hard work and great spirits. I hope that grows and continues to grow. I never want to be cliché, flippant, or insincere in anything that I say, and I mean it when I say I want you to make it in life. Do right. Love God more than ANYTHING else. Love others.
- Bro. Ryan
