I have heard people say something to this effect: “I’m into God; I’m just not into reading the Bible.”
I cannot be critical. I have been there, too. Haven’t you?
I can understand when someone says that they are not “into” the Bible. I have been there. I have found it sometimes confusing, frustrating, or (I’ll just say it…) boring. Am I alone in this? I think not.
Regardless of what I feel about the Bible, though, God has a clearly different opinion. It is, in fact, impossible to separate God from the Bible. In that sense, John 1:1 clears up a lot of confusion for us: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
Jesus Christ is God is the Bible is God’s Word.
Someone who loves someone else will be interested in deepening their relationship through communication. I love my wife and have letters from her in my wallet, in my dresser, in my drawers, in my suit coat pockets and on my office walls. I am interested in what she has to say, because I’m “into” her. I love her.
Someone who is “into” God MUST also be into His Word. God’s Word is how we can know Him.
So are you “into” God, really? Here’s your test:
- How much do you care about His Words to you?
- How much do you ingest His Words (reading, sermons, etc.)?
- How much do you try to live His Words?
It is a tough test, but one we must all take from time to time.
This BIBS series cannot make you care about God’s Word. It will not make you read more or faster. It will not change how you live. YOU have to do all those things.
What this series WILL do is hopefully inspire you to want to know God more through His Word, and then give you the tools to know how to do that better.
I love the Bible. I love God and I want to know Him better. For about 15 years now, I have tried to do that almost every day, personally. It has been the best 15 years of my life, for sure!
Get “into” God my getting into His Word.
BIBS: Big Idea Bible Study
BIBS is a Bible study method for those who want to know God better through His Word. No one will force you to study the Bible, you have to do so on your own.
Some say, “But I don’t believe the Bible is God’s Word.”
You don’t, huh? Contend with these numbers by the statisticians:
OT Prophecies about Jesus Christ: _______ (61)
What is the probability of only _____ (8) coming true in one man?
The chances are 1 in __________! (That’s ___ (17) zeroes!) If you cover the state of _____________ (Texas) in that many half-dollars, you would have a pile 2 feet deep. Now mark one, blindfold someone and have him find your mark.
Definition: The Bible is the Word of God, progressively penned by Divinely inspired humans to eternally convey God’s thoughts to man.
The Bible is complete. It is our duty as Christians now to study out what God ________ (said) to find out what God is ______ (saying) still today and for our future.
