Monumental Moments In Life

I got home yesterday from preaching a 3-night rally in Colorado. I like the emphasis on kicking off the school year right—with Bible preaching! Today, I’ll be re-preaching all three sermons (not all in Sunday school!) as we think about starting the year strong. Each day is a new beginning […]

12-28-2014 Pastor’s Note

December 28th, 2014

Like many of you, I’m coming to the end of my daily Bible reading schedule for 2014 . This is the time of year to decide what you are going to use to help you reach consistency in having a daily time in God’s Word . The encouragement given in Isaiah 34:16 to Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read, should be our habit daily .

One of the requirements for the Kings of Israel was that they copy for themselves a copy of the Word of God to consistently read and heed . This would not only make them better leaders, but would provide many personal benefits as well. We read in Deut. 17:18-20, And it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests the Levites: And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them: That his heart be not lifted up above his brethren, and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the right hand, or to the left: to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he, and his children, in the midst of Israel.

If you are just beginning on the habit of daily reading the Bible, you may want to set a simple goal, such as to read the New Testament through in 2015 . There are only 260 chapters in the New Testament . If you read just one chapter a day, that will leave you 105 days in which you could read Genesis, Joshua and Proverbs . Whatever you decide to do by way of a Bible reading plan, perhaps the most important thing is to stay with it long enough that it becomes a habit that you don’t want to miss . It’s better to purpose to read the New Testament through, and actually do it, than to launch into the goal of reading the entire Bible through 6 times in 2015, and give up in despair by January 12th!

Happy New Year!
