Periodic Reminders

Half the Old Testament is the word Remember. No, that’s not true. It’s 48%. I just rounded up. As Israel forgot, so do we. Today’s insert is a simple reminder of some of the standards we work to maintain as we sing for the Lord. My prayer is that you […]

2013 Preaching Rally Theme Unveiled!

November 28th, 2012

Last Sunday we unveiled the theme for the 2013 Preaching Rally: TIMELESS.
Now what in the world does TIMELESS mean?

From Romans 16:17–20 we learned of Paul’s passion for doctrine and his encouraging the believers to “mark” anyone with contrary doctrine. Apparently in his day, much like today, false teachers were lying to the masses, proclaiming a false doctrine that was contrary to Christ and His Truth. In essence he was encouraging any Christian who was passionate about that same Truth to be on guard and ever ready to contend for the faith.

Why do these false prophets lie? Why do these liars make preposterous and unbiblical claims about having to build a statue, having to go to heaven to encourage God, and having to accept all beliefs as valid ways to get to heaven? Why do men lie about Mother Teresa being a wonderful Christian hero when she herself said she had no peace and was the “saint of darkness?” Why does a man claim to be a shepherd of God’s people and yet deny that Christ is the only way to salvation?

Why? Well, it’s all in the name of Jesus Christ, but Jesus Christ is not the one being served. He’s being used. People are being sold lies in order for the liars to make money. Don’t get mad at me… God said it! Rom. 16:18 “For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ but their own belly, and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.”

Do I think all these men I listed are evil men?

Well, I don’t know their hearts, but I do know the Bible.

And when their message doesn’t line up with the Bible, they are teaching false doctrine and cannot be overlooked.

Any Christian who is passionate about the Lord will be passionate about doctrine. True Bible doctrine.

I, for one, want to convey that passion to the next generation. My generation. The youth.

Are the youth of our church a worthy enough cause to protect at all costs? I do not mean to be melodramatic about it, but the teens are too important to be used as lab rats for all these new church fads that come and go. They need to know that they can believe in something that will last—something that has already stood the test of time and will outlast all the newest church fads that will come and go. The teens of today need to know that their beliefs and their church are rooted in principles that are here to stay.

We’re not passionate about being old-fashioned—like the 1950’s. We’re passionate about being TIMELESS—like 2,000 years ago.

I love the teens of Calvary Baptist Church too much to overlook the things that might hinder God’s working in their lives. I try to tell them all the time that the only thing that will matter to them in 200 years will be how passionate they were about obeying God’s Word.

My generation must choose the old paths. We must be TIMELESS.
