Periodic Reminders

Half the Old Testament is the word Remember. No, that’s not true. It’s 48%. I just rounded up. As Israel forgot, so do we. Today’s insert is a simple reminder of some of the standards we work to maintain as we sing for the Lord. My prayer is that you […]

A Guide to a Joyous Christmas Season

December 14th, 2012

Luke 2:10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

Put Christ First

The Lord Jesus Christ is the very reason for this time of year. Remember that daily worship of Christ in Bible study and prayer lays the foundation for genuine weekly and seasonal worship. Be faithful to God and His house.

Take the opportunity to give the gospel to extended family, and friends

This time of the year tends to soften the hearts even of those who haven’t yet trusted Christ for salvation.  You may find a receptive ear now.  You also have a ready door to speak of the things of God, as there would be no season of Christmas had Jesus not come to Bethlehem 2000 years ago.

Don’t go into debt buying gifts!

There is no need to spend the whole of next year regretting Christmas because you piled up a debt.  If you can’t pay for it, don’t buy it.  Your children will not die without the latest expensive toy, and your husband really does not have to have that 70 inch big screen.

Get someone to come with you to our Christmas services Dec. 16

The Christmas Cantata in the morning service and the Christmas play in the evening service will both be events that clearly give the gospel, and touch the heart.  A lot of work is going into the preparations, and it will be a shame if only our own church family is here to see it.  Let’s fill the place up!

Give a gift to a great cause

We support Bob Walker, a missionary in Tijuana, who has established several churches there, and also a home for orphans and abandoned children.  We will be giving details next Sunday on a project to help the children’s home.  Then, we will be taking up a Christmas offering, Dec. 16 and Dec 23, which is dedicated to helping church planters across America.  Heartland Baptist Bible College hosts a National Church Planting Conference each January, with hundreds of young families who God has called to go out and begin new independent Baptist churches.  Last year we were able to help over a dozen of them with the proceeds of our Christmas offering.  Lets do more this year!
