Periodic Reminders

Half the Old Testament is the word Remember. No, that’s not true. It’s 48%. I just rounded up. As Israel forgot, so do we. Today’s insert is a simple reminder of some of the standards we work to maintain as we sing for the Lord. My prayer is that you […]

Elton John Shouldn’t Be a Christian’s Hero!

April 27th, 2016

Pastor received information on an upcoming national meeting of one of these conventions. Pick up their brochure–any of them, it almost doesn’t matter–and you’ll see right there in black and white (unless it’s a color brochure) that the worship bands will be rockin’ out for Jesus.

Look up a little more information and you will find all their favorites—favorite food, favorite movies, favorite music. Pastor did. Do you know who was listed as a favorite artist of one of the Contemporary Christian band members?
Elton John.
Really? I cannot fathom how that is justified, in their mind. I can’t. Call me judgmental if you must, but a person has a tapeworm loose in his brain if he thinks lifting up a Bible hater like Elton John is okay with God.
Elton John should be no hero to a Christian. To be like Christ (Christian) is to not love the world, neither the things that are in the world.
I didn’t know much about Elton John, but his Wikipedia page says more than I cared to know.
Ignoring the preached Word will lead to teaching that pleases the hearer, not God (1 Tim. 4). Let’s please the Father with our lives.
And, for heaven’s sake (literally), don’t blatantly celebrate sin, Mr. Convention singer.
