Holy Days = Holidays

April 22nd, 2017

Today is a holiday, sort of.

Sunday is a sort of holy day. A day off work, a day of rest, a day of worship, a day set aside in the week to give to God.

How are you using THIS holiday?

But wait, there’s more.

Spring break!! Our holidays are sometimes devoid of spiritual significance. Jewish holidays were truly holy days.

Passover – the promised sacrificial Lamb.

Unleaved bread – “root out” the leaven (sin)

Firstfruits – giving our first and best, and a sign of more to come (c.f. 1 Cor. 15:23)

Pentecost – the harvest of the firstfruits – thanking God!

Those were the Spring holidays for them. Summer came and went, and then September/October ended their time of bounty. Then, it was the rainy season and a time to reflect on how good God was to them.

That’s what today is about – the Fall feasts. We have plenty to be thankful for.
