Monumental Moments In Life

I got home yesterday from preaching a 3-night rally in Colorado. I like the emphasis on kicking off the school year right—with Bible preaching! Today, I’ll be re-preaching all three sermons (not all in Sunday school!) as we think about starting the year strong. Each day is a new beginning […]

In 2 Weeks…

November 25th, 2016

In two weeks, Bro. Sam Davison will be starting a revival service at our church.

I get concerned for people who miss a lot of church. I’m concerned for some of you.

Church needs to be a priority. Not for the CHURCH’S sake. For YOURS!

When I encourage you to be in church, it is not because I profit from it somehow. I get no bonuses from the corporate Baptist headquarters if I reach a certain number of people in our class (btw, there are no corporate Baptist headquarters.)

No. I encourage you to not miss church because I know it can help you.

Not because your friends are here. Not because it will make you rich. Not because we’ll have a fun game on Wednesday. Nope.

I think you should come because men like Bro. Wilson are opening THE BIBLE and helping you be a less critical person (remember that lesson on Wednesday?) We’re trying to help you with real-life issues, like when someone says, “Judge not!” and we’re not sure what to say to that (again, from the lesson last Wednesday.)

Every service is a Bible service. Therefore, every service will help you.

Prayer times, Bible preaching, and even our game times—all of it is something God wants for your life.

I’m concerned when you miss church, because I’m afraid you are not committed to what’s most important in life. I usually have no idea why you miss, but I think Mr. Sniffles attacks some manly men pretty hard. Ol’ Mr. Sniffles and Ms. Sore Throat sure attack a lot of people. They’re such cruel persecutors of the church.

Not only that, but I think the constant pressure of homework might be something the devil uses to distract you from what’s most important in life—that which will benefit you in 264 years… your walk with God! I think homework is good to do. But NOT if you ignore God to do it. Seriously.

(on a side note, I think God gives you the ability to accomplish all he’s called you to. I’ve been a full-time Master’s student AND a church staff intern AND a new husband AND a thesis-writer all at once before. I got my homework and job responsibilities done… I just had to get up at 3:30 daily to do it!)

I think church is SO important that you should commit to it. Like… seriously commit. I’ve seen people committed to band, football, baseball and boyfriends… what about church?

We have a revival service coming up in two weeks. Would you commit to being here every night of it? It will help you. It’s God’s Word being preached, and it’s one of the finest men of God you’ll EVER meet.

I hope you welcome Bro. Davison when he comes. I hope you come to church excited to hear from God. I hope you move closer to the front (I was thinking about this… if a guest comes to our church and wants to find the BEST Christians—the ones who are CLOSEST to God and MOST excited about being right with him… where would they look for THOSE Christians? The front or back pew?)

Remember when we talked about getting “into it?” Are you? Will you be? I’m not accusing. I’m just asking. And encouraging. It’s best that way.
