Periodic Reminders

Half the Old Testament is the word Remember. No, that’s not true. It’s 48%. I just rounded up. As Israel forgot, so do we. Today’s insert is a simple reminder of some of the standards we work to maintain as we sing for the Lord. My prayer is that you […]

Monumental Moments In Life

August 20th, 2017

I got home yesterday from preaching a 3-night rally in Colorado. I like the emphasis on kicking off the school year right—with Bible preaching! Today, I’ll be re-preaching all three sermons (not all in Sunday school!) as we think about starting the year strong.

Each day is a new beginning with God. His mercies are new every morning. But some seasons in life are more life-changing than others. Milestones are marked by things like camp, youth conferences, youth rallies, going to college, starting a new school year, etc. Joshua marked a milestone in the promised land by building a monument—a stack of rocks—to help Israel remember God.

As you go into this school year, put up some kind of “monument” in your life. Maybe it’s your camp booklet on your nightstand, or your bandana pinned to the wall, or a bookmark from Romania, or a bulletin from a Sunday that spoke to you.

The point is… remember it. And then keep reminding yourself of it. And then live it.

Monumental moments are anchors when our ship starts to drift.

Should I read my Bible? It’s boring!

Should I pray today? It’s hard!

Should I confess this sin again? I keep failing!

Should I be a witness at school? I’m embarrassed!

Should I go to Bible college? I’m nervous!

Should I have given up my music? I miss it!

Pastor Chappell has said, “Don’t doubt in the night what God gave you in the light.” Go back to your monument. Don’t drift. Stay anchored.
