What Are We Supposed To Do With Ourselves Now?

Now that Comedy Night is done, what are we supposed to do with ourselves? We’ve been so intensely practicing that we forgot about… gaming! Oh yeah. Mafia. That’s what we can do. Thanks, Alexa. And for the lesson time, we finished up the 3 M’s and 3 A’s for men […]

Music Ministry

October 30th, 2012

Sunday, October 28, 2012

Having recently done some study on the church and on ministry, it is interesting to me that we always call the “tasks” of the church ministry. Even the title image that we put on these sheets every week says the words Music Ministry. The word ministry is thrown around so much that we almost forget what it means… I can’t speak for you, but I sure forget it a lot!

Ministry is serving. Working. Laboring. Trying. Improving. Doing… stuff!

Too often I get to thinking that I’m the Big Kahuna in the music ministry, and I’m what it’s all about. I get the “Me First” mentality and worry all about me. What about ministering? What about the impact I’m supposed to be having on others? What about serving? How often does the real definition of ministry come into my mind?

And how about your mind? You’re involved in the music ministry. Has it always been a way to serve others, or does the me mentality sometimes creep in to your mind too?

It’s easy to lose sight of what we’re doing week by week. It’s easy to forget that it’s not about me. It’s all about God and edifying others in their worship of Him. 1 Cor. 14:12. True ministry happens when everyone in the church has the idea that others come first, and we’re all ministering to one another.

“Yeah, but no one is ministering to me!”

Notice what word is emphasized there? Enjoy the music ministry as a wonderful place to serve others. From there, watch God bless your obedience. If you have the right heart, I promise it will be more of a blessing than you can expect.
