Monumental Moments In Life

I got home yesterday from preaching a 3-night rally in Colorado. I like the emphasis on kicking off the school year right—with Bible preaching! Today, I’ll be re-preaching all three sermons (not all in Sunday school!) as we think about starting the year strong. Each day is a new beginning […]

New People. New Programs.

November 25th, 2016

Today launches my favorite time of year: summer. School’s DONE this week (for most of you), and in the Teens of Faith, that means we go crazy. Memorial Day picnic tomorrow, Promotion Sunday next week, Comedy Night practices, the LA Missions Trip in 2 weeks, Knott’s the day after we return, Courtyard Café, volleyball tournament, Yard Sale in June, Comedy Night in July, and then CAAAMP! (*Have I mentioned that I’d like ALL of you to go to camp this year??)

Plus, along for the ride (without really knowing what they were getting into) are 4 new youth staff: the Wilsons and the interns. Woo hoo! Today is our intro time for all of them.

Bro. Jim and Mrs. Holly Wilson are lifelong friends of my family. I have a lifetime of memories with them. Crazy how fast time flies, because I’m only now at the age they were when I first knew them (Haha! Sorry, Wilsons). Bro. Wilson taught class last Wednesday, and has a Bible that’s as tall as some of you. He loves the Bible and works at living it. Mrs. Wilson is one of the big bosses at Linfield Christian School, and has worked with high schoolers for hundreds of years. When I was Abe’s age, she’d smooch my cheek (against my will!). She has stopped doing that. Thankfully.

I have old memories with the Wilsons. Playing Wolfenstein at their house with headphones on and getting scared to death by their son and my brother. Getting my first Dodgers hat from them. Lying on their water bed (the only one I ever remember). Bro. Wilson’s old Toyota work truck. Playing Legos—seemed like acres of them (which they gave to us!) I love the Wilsons, and appreciate their influence on me.

The other new people in class today are the interns. We never know them as individuals, huh? Just… the interns. Well, they have names. Bro. Michael is from my wife’s home city: Indianapolis. Indiana people are pretty cool, in my opinion. He’s a Junior at Heartland Baptist Bible College, and he’ll be writing for our Sunday School announcement sheets starting next week. Bro. Ben is a sophomore from Iowa. I haven’t found out much about Iowa except that there’s corn and pigs. Pigs outnumber people 8:1. I like that. Bro. Ben will be writing some for our Wednesday night sheets. Stay tuned…

These men will be with us all summer and are tagging along on everything: LA Trip, Knott’s, camp, everything. Poor us.

Get to know all the new youth staff. Talk with them. Don’t be awkward. Unless that’s fun for you, I guess.

Each of these adults loves you without even knowing you, yet. They pray for you. They want to help you in any way they can. Maybe they’ll help you just by being an example to you. Maybe they’ll be a special encouragement to you. I don’t know. I DO know that God has led in each situation, and I know God has great things in store this summer.

I love you all. Love God. Love others. Do right.

-Bro. Ryan
