Periodic Reminders

Half the Old Testament is the word Remember. No, that’s not true. It’s 48%. I just rounded up. As Israel forgot, so do we. Today’s insert is a simple reminder of some of the standards we work to maintain as we sing for the Lord. My prayer is that you […]

Pray for our Christian Teachers and our Students!

October 30th, 2012

I listened to a recent interview of a prominent university president as he was asked about how well prepared public high school graduates are for the academic expectations of the university. He said the vast majority of them are not ready for college level work and are required to take remedial courses in subjects such as basic English grammar.  His assessment of public education was that it was a colossal failure.  He recognized that it was in large part due to the fact that the public school system has long since abandoned the simple approach of just teaching students to read, comprehend, write, spell, do math, and learn history, geography and science.  He saw, as many have, that the public school system has become in part, a tool for social engineering.

Our public schools here in California are now being required, at taxpayer’s expense, to begin promoting homosexuality by highlighting the “contributions” of homosexuals to society, and by presenting homosexuality in a positive light.  I saw a video clip of a recent class experience in an east coast elementary school in which a homosexual man was brought in to talk to the children about homosexual marriage.  The children were then made to participate in group discussions about the acceptability of men marrying men.  Any child who questioned it was ridiculed into silence by some of the other children as the homosexual man looked approvingly on.  If it is not already happening here in our public schools, it will be soon.  Do you know what  profession has the highest percentage of children in private and Christian schools?  It is public school teachers.

Sarah LaVerdiere comes from a long line of public school teachers.  Her mother and grandmother were public school teachers, and she entered upon her vocation with a love for children and a desire to see them come to love learning.   She taught at Bugg Elementary School in Raleigh, North Carolina.  She was forced to resign two weeks before the end of the school year last year.  What was her “crime?”  She would not agree to the board’s demand not to ever mention the name of Jesus in the classroom.  The school board offered to immediately re-instate her if she would agree.  On her last day, her class was dismissed to the playground and she was escorted off school grounds around the back way so that her students could not see her.  Her experiences over her years in public education led her to state, “the public school system is one of the most anti-Christian institutions in America.”  Parents need to do all they can to give their children an alternative to government schools.  And for those Christians teaching, or as students in these schools, stand for Jesus, even when it costs a great price.  “Brethren, pray for one another.”
