Pray Without Ceasing

July 30th, 2013

-bulletin note from July 21, 2013

In last week’s morning preaching, God’s word called us to get into the good habit of praying everywhere (1Tim. 2:8).  (You could do that right here, right now.)  Another thing he tells us to do regarding prayer, is to “pray without ceasing.”  R.A. Torrey gave the account of two men he met in his first pastorate in Garrettsville, Ohio.  He prayed regularly for them to be saved during his entire ministry there.  When he left that ministry, neither man had trusted Christ as Saviour.  Torrey was in Germany for several years, and then pastored in Minneapolis, but he kept praying that those two men would be saved.  Some time later he was invited back to Garrettsville to preach. Torrey related, “One night in that series of meetings, when I gave out the invitation for all those who would accept the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour, those two arose, side by side.  There was no special reason why they should be side by side, for they were not relatives.  When I saw those two for whom I had prayed all those years standing up side by side to accept the Lord, what an overwhelming sense came over my soul that there is a God  who hears prayer if we meet the conditions and follow his method of prevailing prayer!”  There is a good account to remind us to do what Paul said in the Scriptures; “pray without ceasing,” and “pray everywhere.”
