Periodic Reminders

Half the Old Testament is the word Remember. No, that’s not true. It’s 48%. I just rounded up. As Israel forgot, so do we. Today’s insert is a simple reminder of some of the standards we work to maintain as we sing for the Lord. My prayer is that you […]

TOF – Mamamama…

May 10th, 2015

Charlotte’s first and favorite word is mamamamama

I’m okay with that. She’s working on dadadada.

There’s just something about moms, right? When I put Charlotte down, nothing happens. She’s like, All right, done with dad. On to my toys.

But when MOM puts her down it’s a different story. Dramatic rageful tears of rejection, here we come! MOM! Don’t leave me! How could you put me down? Don’t you LOVE me? Don’t you WANT to carry me around all the day?! Why are you doing this to me? I can’t bear it! WAAAA!…

That’s about how it goes. Charlotte loves her Mommy. And she’s got a good one.

Abe has grown out of that particular clingy phase, but he still loves his Mommy like crazy. His phase now is fits of clench-jawed wrestle-mania! His form of love wrestling mom less. He has all this energy (rage?) pent up inside him, and he goes to release it in a psycho burst of fury. When he does that, sometimes Mom is the only one around to receive his outburst. Poor Mrs. Jamie. But then something clicks in his mind, and he thinks, Oh, wait… spankings hurt… I don’t hit girls. Mommy’s a girl. I love my mom. I’d better chill.

Yeah, you’d better! Nobody punches my wife. Especially not some punk 2-year old!

But Abe loves his mom, so he stops short of the full fury he was about to release. He relaxes his jaw. He loosens his clenched fists. He lets out a calming sign. Aahhh. That’s better.

It’s kind of sad when you show love by NOT showing as much rage. Good one, Abe. Well, it’s something, I guess. Happy Mother’s Day, Mrs. Jamie (and all other moms who might be reading this)!
