Monumental Moments In Life

I got home yesterday from preaching a 3-night rally in Colorado. I like the emphasis on kicking off the school year right—with Bible preaching! Today, I’ll be re-preaching all three sermons (not all in Sunday school!) as we think about starting the year strong. Each day is a new beginning […]

TOF – Some Things CAN’T Be Optional

July 26th, 2013

Wednesday, March 20, 2013

When Mrs. Jamie and I were going through pre-marital counseling in preparation for our marriage, the counselor said something that stood out to me.

“Ryan and Jamie, you might be totally in love right now, but even though the end is the farthest thing from your minds right now, you still have to purpose right now that this will never end.” Sure, of course, we both thought. We are totally in love and cannot wait to get married. Until death do us part and all that.

We both agreed to his statement, but he reiterated it. “You have to decide right now that divorce can never be an option.” It struck home. I had never really thought about it, because I had obviously never been in that situation, but it was an impactful time for me. It helped me see that some decisions have to be made now, and they can’t be optional. For some reason, these two areas are on my mind for you to think about right now:

Divorce. Divorce should NEVER even be a consideration for you. You need to choose right now that you will never get a divorce. How do you make that decision now? Well, the BEST way is to get it right the first time. Marry a Christian. Marry a devoted Christian, and be that to your future spouse. Right now. Be a devoted Christian.

Homosexuality. Another lifestyle that can never be an option to you is homosexuality. Choose right now that you will never let it creep into your life. Same-sex attraction is real. The world will tell you over and over and over and over and over that it is normal, natural, and okay with God. It is not. It can never be optional. Talk to someone and get it taken care of as sin, and decide now to never let it get a foothold.
