Persistence or Faithfulness?

It seems like everyone out there puts a big emphasis on persistence, right?

“Don’t ever give up.”

That’s the mindset. “You can do anything you set your mind to.” Never hold back; give everything your all.

People are so passionate about persistence and dedication, and they’re devoted to so many different things. Some people are so passionate about sports, about dance, about grades, about their college choice… about everything!

The Bible has preached that same message forever, only the Bible term is faithfulness. I find it strange when someone thinks that he or she is a persistent person that “never gives up” and “always pushes hard at everything” but never takes that same passion to the things of God.

You should be more impressed with someone who is faithful to God for a lifetime than you are with some star athlete’s workout routine. People’s persistence is only as deep as their faithfulness. If you’ve ever made a promise or a commitment to God, stick to that before wandering off on any other tangent. Be sure to be more persistent in godly things than you are in anything else in life.

Be faithful to church! It matters far more than anything else in life. Come tonight. Come on Wednesday. Be faithful to your commitment to be in play practice (we had a LOT gone last week!) Just be faithful. God will bless that above all else!
