Periodic Reminders

Half the Old Testament is the word Remember. No, that’s not true. It’s 48%. I just rounded up. As Israel forgot, so do we. Today’s insert is a simple reminder of some of the standards we work to maintain as we sing for the Lord. My prayer is that you […]

Christmas Traditions

What did you do yesterday?

We opened Santa’s gifts in our stockings, opened our cool gifts and headed up to my parents’ for breakfast, more presents, lunch and play-time. While we were waiting, Garret opened one of his presents early—a rocket—so the brothers and nephews put it all together and shot it off a few times. Man-time to the extreme. It got caught in a neighbor’s tree the first time, got lost behind the Bailey’s house the second time and the last time we finally dialed it in and landed it pretty close to us.

Talk about extreme man-time… in the field where we were shooting off the rocket was a bunch of golf balls. We gathered them all up and started hitting them back in the field. When Nathan went out to get some of the balls that didn’t go so far, Pastor started blasting as many golf balls as he could hit right at Nathan’s head. The war was on. Nathan started hitting them back at us and it turned into many near-death experiences. Pastor’s ankle was the only casualty.

After golf we played some more inside games, ate some leftovers and hung out as a family. Christmas is an awesome time to be around the people that you love. It’s not all about the gifts. I hope and pray that all of you work to build strong families some day. I pray that no matter what your upbringing is like right now, you choose to please God with your life and watch Him do amazing things with your future. God’s blessings are amazing, and I’m reminded often of the blessings of lifetime faithfulness. Not MY faithfulness but my parents—people who have been faithful for a lifetime and are reaping amazing blessings from God through their family today.

Last week’s BIBS time:

Head to toe, inside to out, all men are condemned sinners who alone are hopeless to free themselves from the law.

Even through Old Testament saints’ testimonies we see that salvation is attained not by keeping the law but by believing God in faith.
