Periodic Reminders

Half the Old Testament is the word Remember. No, that’s not true. It’s 48%. I just rounded up. As Israel forgot, so do we. Today’s insert is a simple reminder of some of the standards we work to maintain as we sing for the Lord. My prayer is that you […]

Good Job!

Good job on Sunday with greeting guests.

I’ve written here and there recently about our Be Our Guest program, and I would hate to see it die young. When we were first starting to talk about this program I remember someone saying, “I’m excited to see what this will be like in the future. It’s like we’ll be able to look back on seeing people added to the class and say, ‘I was a part of that.’”

And you can be a part. In fact, I think it’s okay to say you should be.

Everyone in here should be able to be a welcoming, kind person. That should go without saying.

But while you might think you’re a welcoming, kind person, have you made it a point over the last few weeks to do something welcoming and kind? Like Pastor was preaching from James a couple weeks ago… it’s not so we can get something from the people we’re kind to (remember him messing with Bro. Bruce Bell?) It’s so that we can give to others.

Give of yourself by sitting next to someone who’s sitting alone. Give up your seat and move to sit by a guest or someone who’s not sitting by anyone. If you think someone’s left out, include him or her.

Here are a couple ideas:

  1. 1.      Sit somewhere different each week. Rotate seats around. Sit by a different person tonight or Sunday.
  2. 2.      Challenge someone new in foosball or pool (and destroy them! Just kidding.)
  3. 3.      Sit by someone else in the main service. Unless, of course, you’re in the front row. Then you can stay, but you can’t have my seat.
  4. 4.      Get a spare Bible or share your Bible with someone.

These are just a couple ideas. You don’t have to do all of them all the time, but at least consider it. Are you welcoming? Are you nice?

Then do nice things. Good job on this… keep it up.
