UNTO. God Puts Himself In the TO Position

August 20th, 2017

Pastor Wayne Hardy preached this thought last week:

Communication happens when one person speaks UNTO someone else: FROM someone TO someone. That is, FROM God TO the people, or FROM God TO Moses, or FROM Moses TO the people.

One communicates. One listens. One speaks; the other inclines his ear.

It may seem strange, but God chooses to allow Himself to be placed in the TO position. Our worship comes FROM us TO Him. It is as if He sits on the edge of His thrown, bending His ear down to hear us better.

He listens.

And when God is our audience, it should change everything about our worship. It becomes less about our preference and more about the weight of the importance of what we’re doing when we’re singing those “old, dry, boring hymns” again.

We do what we do with excellence because God is choosing to listen.

Did that thought change how you sang congregationals today? Or our choir song? Or listened to the offertory? Or prepared yesterday? Or did it change how you listened to the prayers in the services?

May we unite around worshiping God in spirit and in truth.

Bro. Ryan
